"Everybody eats when they come to my house."
I love that old song and all things Fats Waller
Anyway after Katrina everything in my yard died.
The bananas just sort of took a break. They are back.
The Old Avocado had just made it's first crop (they take about seven years from seed to fruit). The New Avocado is doing nicely as are the New Citrus.
I tried some Tiny Eggplants this year for the first time and they are quit yummy.
As allways Click on the pics if you wanna see some sub-tropical porn close up.
P.S. I should mention that these bananas get about half the size of the ones you see in the store and have a banana /strawberry / and citrus flavor.
They take a year and a half to mature so if we get a hard freeze there are no bananas that next fall.
A lot of people down here hate bananas in their land scape because they can take over your yard.
The trick is to have a place to compost the old trees after they make fruit as they only make fruit once. Also have a place to compost the guys that get killed in the freeze.
The other trick is to just mow any tiny shoots you don't want just like grass.
I hear the same is true of bamboo.
As long as you got a spot in your yard to compost your good plus you dont have to buy potting soil after a year or two of composting.
